Gold Reserves

At the end of 2004, central banks and investment funds hold 19% of all above ground gold.

 

As of 2009:

US holds 8000 tonnes, Germany holds 3500 tonnes, China holds 1000 tonnes.

India holds just 550 tonnes.

 

IMF holds 3000 tonnes.

 

Even in percentage terms, US and Germany hold more than 65% of their reserves in gold. Portugal holds > 80% of its reserves in gold. Though China holds 1000 tonnes in gold, it amounts to only 1.5% of Chinas reserves.

India holds just 6.4% of its reserves in gold.
