Chennai Sangamam

Chennai Sangamam is a week-long festival organized during Pongal season (mid of January) in Chennai. It is organized by Tamil Maiyam & Dept. of Tourism and Culture, Govt of Tamil Nadu. It is dubbed as the largest open festival in India.

 

It represents the culture of villages and  culture of Chennai. Lot of carnatic music. Lots of tamil film music and dance. Bharathanyam. Folk dances like kavadi, karagam, silambattam and Bommaigal Nadanam. Even some Sufi music.

The best part of it is that local-ites can easily participate as programs happen at various parts of Chennai like T Nagar, KK Nagar, Besant Nagar, Palavakkam, etc.

 

Stars who participate include Lawrence Ragavendra, Bombay Jayashri, Nithyasree, Sivamani and Sudha Raghunathan.
